About Brenda Spitzer, MSc, RP, RMFT
As an experienced individual, couple and family therapist, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. I will work with you to address difficult, unresolved situations of the past that are creating obstacles in your present life and relationships. Our therapy sessions will focus on unearthing long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing more fulfilling relationships and a meaningful life. If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation, if you are ready to resolve long-standing issues impacting your happiness and relationships, or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Marriage and Family Therapist, a Clinical Fellow & Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and a faculty member in the Graduate Program in Couple and Family Therapy at the University of Guelph. I have extensive clinical expertise in several issues with a special interest in depression, anxiety, trauma, loss, life transitions and their impacts on optimal functioning. I have over 15 years of experience working with couple relationships and assists partners to move past the difficult obstacles in their relationship often connected to struggles over money, sex, communication or a result of life transitions, long-standing unresolved hurts and fears and other serious life stressors. I use a systems lens when working with individuals, couples and families and integrate narrative, emotion-focused, solution-focused and dialogic therapy modalities. When working with families, I emphasize collaboration to facilitate exploration, provide guidance and offer non-judgmental support to promote meaningful change so that families' choices, experiences and relationships become aligned with their preferences and values.
